I bought this book because a neighbor of mine wanted to get rid of her mealy amazon who’s age is unknown but is apparently older than 35 years or more of age. Well to shorten the story my neighbor changed her mind when I asked if I could take him into my care but this book in my opinion has very good insight on how to better understand and take care of our already established parrot we own. Reading the stories that The Second Hand parrot provides has help me learn from others mistake and misunderstanding of parrots to be able to really care for my Ruby.

If you only buy one parrot book, get this one. It gives so much detailed information on parrot behavior, and possible problems. It paints a realistic picture for the second hand parrot owner and possible problems that you may encounter, and more importantly multiple ways to fix them. I would recommend this to anyone who may be getting a parrot, already has one or is just curious on what owning a parrot may be like.

This book has a great deal of helpful and useful information for adopting a second-hand parrot. I read it cover to cover before bringing home my re-homed bird, and the rehabilitation period is going very well. The book is very insightful and it is clear that the author has many years working with parrots of all temperaments. This book was a tremendous help to me. I highly recommend it for anyone considering adopting or buying a second-hand parrot.

This is a great book if you have adopted or rescued any Parrot. Invaluable information and tips. I was surprised, and learned several new ways to help my Parrot adapt quickly, calmly, and with pleasure for all parties! Falsely labeled a biter, he got a bad rap. You, too, may have a secretly sweet-natured Parrot!

This is a great book for anyone interested in getting any type of parrot. I would even recommend this book if you are getting a “first-hand” parrot because it will help you avoid creating problem behaviors in your parrot. It covers not only problem behaviors and how to solve them, but why they start in the first place so that you can avoid them. It is an entertaining read with several first-hand stories.
