Noisy piece of junk. Have to put it in the room with their litter box so as not to hear the constant whining of the motor. Save your money. Get a dog.

The unit appears white in the photo posted. It’s actually speckled gray – not very attractive. This was not in any of the descriptions or clear from the photo so I wasted ~$40 in shipping both ways due to the lack of information on that. I’m sharing this so that others can avoid that problem.

When they state that to cut down costs, the item will be packaged in a plain box…they weren’t kidding. I purchased mine from this site. The cost of the fountain was only $0.00, but the Shipping & Handling was $0.00 bringing the total to $0.00 Still not a terrible price, however I thank UPS Ground Service for their careful handling of the “white box.” The Fountain, as the instructional manual stated, comes fully assembled.” NO WAY! Upon picking up the box, I could hear parts rattling around inside. Upon opening the box, the Fountain was in pieces…not broken but laying around in an empty box with no bubble wrap, or protection whatsoever. With fountain together. I must admit that the Drinkwell Platinum is sturdy, for nothing wthe instructions, (that were found falling out of the box), I put theas broken. I also noted that this website, I purchased it from, charged S&H for a seven pound object even though the weight was under 4 pounds. I will ammend the usefullness of the fountain once my cats start drinking from it. What is confusing is that in reading about the fountain having 4 rubber feet, then why do the instructions reccomend that the fountain be placed on a “placemat” or “towel” if it’s to be placed on a wooden floor, tile floor or carpet? Why the rubber feet then? The instructions also state that if your house uses “hard” water, then they suggest that you purchase “bottled water” to prevent the motor from burning up.

I would have much rather had the original boxing, for it couldn’t have weighed that much, as well as a website sponsored here that was reliable in their packaging procedures. Overall, Amazon has ALWAYS been amazing yet in allowing a website that treats NEW items as though they could survive being thrown into a cardboard box & handled by UPS…well the blame for a damaged item would be between UPS and ThePetStoreOnline for reimbursement. In closing, I REALLY do believe that this fountain is TOUGH, to survive a trip from Georgia to here! (Must be Dishwasher Safe!)

I must not have read the fine print well enough, because I was under the impression that the water had a resource tube to connect to a faucet or spigot, but instead you fill up the reservoir and just plug it in to circulate the contained water, and it does not bring in fresh water so you still have to make sure there is enough water to last. I purchased it so when I went away for a weekend I would know my pets had enough water, but without a water source, it’s still a finite amount. Disappointing.

I should have made my own fountain-you can with a small aquarium submergable filter and a glass or plastic container so that the small aquarium filter fits on the side. In fact, I have made such a device and my cats love it just the same (I thought of that only AFTER I bought Drinkwell).

I give it low ratings due to the false advertising: The device is NOT quiet. After a few months it gets louder. Much louder. The whirrrrrr sound will drive you batty unless you have it in another room away from your bedroom.

It is ALSO false that you clean it once a week-you MUST wash this out at least every other day-debris, bugs fall in it. Pieces of cat food. It builds up bacteria pretty fast in the water. I try to wash mine out daily. Did you hear me? DAILY. The carbon filters cost a fortune-I use one for a fish aquarium (rinse well before using). However, activated charcoal is insufficient to clean the water.

It’s a pain to clean. The parts are kind of hard to put back together. It does take a few minutes. I mean it’s do-able. It’s just a bit cumbersome.

My cats do love it. I hate it. Also the plastic looks cheap made-I mean if you drop it once by accident, the container could crack. The drinkwell itself is not thick plastic. I expected something for the price to be thicker made. Oh well.

I had it a good six months and it is functiong well still; however, the pump is not quiet like it alleges. But what do you expect from something made in CHINA.
