I found this book and CD to be extremely informative and to give me excellent pointers on starting my own pet sitting business. I have had my own experience having my dogs stay at kennels when I went out of town and my dogs always returned jumpy and jittery for the first couple of days after leaving the kennel. The best place for an animal to stay when its owner is away is where the animal is most familiar — in its home. I have recently started my own pet sitting business and this book has been a tremendous help in doing so.

In this exceptionally well-written and wonderfully organized book, accomplished writer and professional businesswoman Angela Williams Duea introduces home business basics and gives all the important information you need in a positive way to not only start and run a pet sitting business, but how to prosper in your new venture. The demand for pet sitters has never been greater, but to succeed in this field, you’ll need much more than a love for animals–you’ll need to enjoy working with people and have business savvy as well. That includes the commercial side of it.

“How to Open & Operate a Financially Successful Pet Sitting Business” is full of cleaver and creative ideas you can use to successfully get the word out about who you are and what you do quickly and cheaply. Everything you need to know on getting started from sample documents to handling policies and procedures to safety issues, as well as creating a business plan is included. The book contains wonderful tips, proven marketing techniques and easily followed methods. And while Duea’s purpose in the book is to tell about building a pet sitting business and developing a successful career in a rewarding profession, it’s also about developing friendships, as well as business and professional relationships. Duea includes plenty of real-life case studies to help you decide if you have what it takes to be a pet sitter. The second part of the book deals with interacting with clients. She also includes a heartfelt sympathy card to send to a client that experiences the loss of a pet. This is an excellent book highly recommended.

If you want to work with animals and get paid for it, this is the book for you. Not only does it show you how to set up a viable business it also shows you how to keep it running and make it grow at the same time. Overall, I liked the writing of the book. It was light-hearted and easy to understand. I also liked how the book gets you in the right frame of mind to start a new business. Not only would it be useful for those who are just starting out in the business of pet sitting, but it would be very useful for someone looking for new ideas for their already formed business.

The book is well written and not many bad things can be pointed out, but I would say that it goes a little overboard with the details that state the obvious which most people would make out for themselves. Saying this, sometimes the simplest thing can slip a person’s mind and it doesn’t cause harm to have it included in the book.

I would strongly recommend this to anyone wanting to set up their own pet sitting business.

The author covers all of the basic information that one would need to consider before venturing out into a pet sitting business. The book is clearly written and easy to understand. It offers suggestions and guidelines pertinent to the pet sitting business with plenty of information to ponder. The book includes information on how to market your business, manage clients and office procedures.

The author provides information not only on caring for domestic animals, but also includes exotic and farm animals as well. She also brings to your attention other ways in which you can expand your business such as by making and having available for sale, homemade doggie treats; recipes included.

I would give this book a 4-star rating because it has some good, solid, basic information, but it lacks topical passion.
